About IAFTC

The International Association of Forensic Toxicology Consultants (IAFTC) is a multidisciplinary professional association dedicated to fostering excellence in forensic toxicology consulting and related fields.

Our Mission

To foster a collaborative community of forensic toxicology experts dedicated to advancing the application of scientific knowledge and expertise in the field of forensic toxicology. We strive to ensure that forensic toxicology evidence is presented in a clear, comprehensible, and scientifically sound manner in legal proceedings.

What We Do

IAFTC serves independent forensic toxicology consultants and expert witnesses by:

  • Establishing Scientific Integrity – Promoting rigorous scientific standards within forensic toxicology-related fields
  • Advancing Professional Standards – Supporting ethical practices and professional excellence in forensic toxicology
  • Providing Continuing Education – Offering training opportunities and resources for professional development
  • Encouraging Collaboration – Facilitating peer exchange and information sharing among experts
  • Supporting Independent Consultants – Representing and advocating for members engaged in independent forensic consulting and research
  • Educating Stakeholders – Informing legal professionals, courts, and the public about best practices in forensic toxicology

Our Organization

IAFTC was officially incorporated in North Carolina in 2025 after more than a year of development by founding members committed to creating a professional association that prioritizes scientific integrity and transparency. 

Membership

IAFTC offers three membership categories:

  • Full Members – Independent expert witnesses qualified in forensic toxicology-related fields with full voting rights and leadership opportunities
  • Associate Members – Forensic toxicology consultants working toward expert witness qualification with full voting rights
  • Emeritus Members – Retired members in good standing who have made exemplary contributions to the field

All members must be independent consultants able to freely accept or decline casework, ensuring objectivity and scientific integrity in forensic practice.
